EARLVILLE - An Earlville man who has been charged with arson after allegedly setting fire to the Community Lighthouse Church on April 8 was released without bail.
About 12 hours after his release the suspect, Brian C. Carver, was again picked-up by police following a complaint of a man being in traffic in the Town of Norwich. Police treated the incident as a mental health call and transported Carver to Binghamton General Hospital for additional treatment.
Wednesday, New York State Police Troop C Public Information Officer Aga Dembinska confirmed the suspect was not currently at large in the public, after state troopers transferred him to a medical facility for treatment last Thursday afternoon.
Carver was originally released after appearing in court for his arraignment, he pleaded not guilty and was released without bail by the court.
Carver is charged with third-degree arson, a class C felony after allegedly setting fire to the Community Lighthouse Church in Earlville on April 8.
“Carver was taken into custody on South Main Street not far from the church,” said Dembinska. “He sustained minor injuries while being taken into custody so he was taken by ambulance to Chenango Memorial to be treated.”
