CHENANGO COUNTY - The New York State Police are warning Chenango County citizens to check their storage units following a rise in burglaries throughout the county.
According to New York State Police Troop C Public Information Officer Aga Dembinska, there has been a rise in storage unit and shed break-ins, along with a number of other burglaries throughout Chenango County.
Debinska said at the end of April in 2019, there were six burglaries in Chenango County, by the end of April this year there have been 16.
“It’s possible that some of the burglaries that we’re seeing is related to people coming back to their second homes from other areas due to the coronavirus,” said Dembinska. “Normally we would see an increase in reported burglaries around mid-summer when families return from other areas to find their homes broken into.”
