CHENANGO COUNTY - Several schools throughout Chenango County have announced they will host outdoor graduation ceremonies after the governor changed the requirements over the weekend.
On Sunday, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo held a coronavirus update where he said, “We’re going to allow socially distanced graduations outdoors, with up to 150 people total, beginning June 26, that’s when the schools start to graduate, and it gives us a couple of weeks between now and then if god forbid the number changes.”
Chenango County schools including the Norwich City School District, Gilbertsville Mount-Upton, Greene and Bainbridge-Guilford school districts have tentatively confirmed that their graduations will be outdoors, and closer to a traditional graduation ceremony with social distancing guidelines in place.
The Unadilla Valley, Afton, and Sherburne-Earlville school districts are meeting with parents and seniors throughout this week to determine what kind of ceremony works for them.
DCMO BOCES will not have an in person graduation, and neither will the Oxford School District. Otselic Valley will host a drive-through ceremony on Saturday, June 13.
Norwich City School District Interim Superintendent Diana Bowers said Norwich will host an outdoor graduation ceremony for its seniors on June 27, but the district is currently working with parents and seniors to figure out what kind of ceremony would be best.
