NORWICH - The Norwich Fire Department responded to Brown Street in the City of Norwich on Sunday after a 911 caller reported that the back of a home was on fire.
According to City of Norwich Fire Department Chief Jan Papelino, at 3:37 p.m. Sunday a fire was reported at 20 Brown Street in the City of Norwich. Papelino said no one was injured in the fire, and a preliminary investigation has indicated that the fire was caused by cigarettes that had been thrown away into a flammable container.
“Engine 4 left as soon as we got the call and when they arrived they said the Charlie side of the house was on fire,” said Papelino. “They went in through the front door, hit the kitchen, and managed to get the fire out in the back as well.”
“The main fire was knocked down in around 15 minutes, and after approximately 30 minutes I called the fire as out, but we were still checking for hot spots.”
