NORWICH - The Norwich Family YMCA will continue to offer childcare services throughout the summer with safety precautions in place to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.
According to Norwich Family YMCA Youth Development Director Elaine Genute, the childcare program as a whole has seen some key changes since the outbreak of COVID-19 including child temperature checks, maximum group sizes of 10, and rotations throughout the Y with sanitation occurring in between.
“We were approved by the county department of health in Mid-march to continue providing essential childcare for the essential workers at the Y,” said Genute. “Now we’re transiting to the summer childcare program, coordinating alongside with the state phases, so whoever is working we’re able to watch their children.”
“We do our best to keep the Y clean; we’ve operated this long and everything is going very smoothly.”
Genute said the YMCA has staff members pick up the children at the community room doors, to help limit potential parental exposure in the building.
