NEW BERLIN - The Village of New Berlin approved up to $1,550,000 towards the construction of a new firehouse and community center project at its last board meeting. Village documents show that $370,000 will need to be taken out as a bond to cover the project’s expenses.
In June, the Village of New Berlin Board of Trustees voted to approve a community center and firehouse project that will be in large part funded by donations of area businesses and New York State Grants.
According to Village of New Berlin records, the village board plans to cover a portion of the cost by taking out serial bonds or bond anticipation notes in an amount not to exceed $370,000. In the resolution, the village board says it will take 10 years to pay back the bond, with a $21,400 reduction to future contributions to the Fire Department reserve account helping to reduce potential taxpayer burden.
It adds that the funding from the village’s General Fund will also help to reduce any impact felt by the taxpayer.
