OXFORD – In 2018, Nurse Practitioner Kathy Anderson spent nine days in Honduras on a medical mission. Her trip took her from the northern Caribbean coast of the Central American nation and into the mountains of the country’s interior.
Anderson, who joined the UHS Primary Care Oxford team in March, will share stories of her work in Honduras and the medical team she traveled with in a special virtual presentation being offered as part of UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s 2020 Women’s Health Series.
“Knowing that many people have canceled or changed their summer travel plans, we decided to do something a little different this month,” explained Melissa Stagnaro, who coordinates the series.
Rather than the usual ladies night out the series is known for, the event will be presented as a special 40 minute ‘lunch & learn’ presentation. It will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 via Zoom.
Nor will it solely be focused on women’s health.
“While we’re hosting this as part of the series, it’s really for anyone. All are invited and encouraged to attend,” she said.
According to Stagnaro, the presentation will give people the opportunity to get to know Anderson on a different level.
“Since Kathy joined our Oxford Primary Care team right before COVID, there are many people in the community who haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting her. This is an opportunity for them to get to know her, and ‘visit’ Honduras in the process,” she said.
This will be the second installment of the popular health series offered virtually.
“We’re grateful to be able to use this platform as a safe way to stay connected during this crisis,” Stagnaro said. “And it’s given us an opportunity to broaden our reach, since people can participate from anywhere”
