NORWICH – Last week, the New York State Council of the Arts (NYSCA) announced art venues are reopening across New York State. However, the Chenango Arts Council was not included in that list.
The Chenango Arts Council, along with all other arts and cultural organizations across New York State have been closed for the last five months. With guidance outlined in Governor Andrew Cuomo's New York Forward reopening plan, over 100 programs and organizations are rebooting.
In the Southern Tier, 13 museums, art centers and musical organizations were listed as reopening, but the Chenango Arts Council is not quite ready to reopen.
"We are technically not really open for business. We have cancelled our live performances along with in-person classes and workshops," said Executive Director Alecia ONeill. "Our office is open Tuesday through Friday by appointment only."
Although the Chenango Arts Council has not opened its doors yet, there are still plans in the works to bring events back to the community.
