CHENANGO COUNTY – As the votes are still being counted, a number of area races are still too close to call, while other candidates have declared victory.

The current results are from the state board of elections and preliminary. Final results will be certified by state officials at a later date. Absentee ballots have also not yet been counted.

Republican Party Commissioner Mary Lou Monahan said absentee ballots would not be opened and counted until Nov. 12.

“We hope to have the election certified by end of month,” said Monahan

Despite that, some candidates finished election night with enough support to tentatively declare victory.

Republican Joe Angelino thanked supporters after receiving about 69 percent of 51,568 votes so far cast in the race for New York's 122 Assembly District, according to the New York State Board of Elections Wednesday morning.

“Thanks to all those who supported me in my first ever run for political office. Thanks to my family and my wife Kendall for always being at my side. I also appreciate that my opponent, Richard Shaw, ran a positive, professional campaign. Wish me luck in my efforts to represent the people of the 122nd Assembly District,” Angelino told supporters.

Republican Fred Akshar also proclaimed victory in the 52nd Senate District. According to the New York State Board of Elections he received about 73 percent of the 106,927 ballots so far counted.

Tuesday night Akshar posted online, "Votes are still being counted and will be coming in for quite some time. Every vote must be counted, but I'm humbled and grateful for the overwhelming support we've received tonight from the people of the 52nd Senate District. Throughout this campaign we ran like we were five points behind because I'm never going to be a candidate that takes anything for granted. I look forward to going right back to work in the morning and continuing to stand up, speak out and fight for the people I'm honored to serve."

Peter Oberacker received about 57 percent of the 112,285 votes counted for the 51st Senate District.

In a close race former Congresswoman Rep. Claudia Tenney has a serious lead over Anthony Brindisi for New York’s 22nd Congressional District.

With 472 voting districts out of 565 reporting results, and 262,433 votes so far counted, Tenney has 53.30 percent of the vote and Brindisi has 42.47 percent, according to the New York State Board of Elections Wednesday morning.

Tenney had previously represented the district from 2017 to 2019, and lost in the last election to Brindisi in a very close race.

As the county boards of election continue to count the votes the Tenney campaign said Brindisi's path to victory was now “extremely narrow.”

On election night, Tenney supporters gathered at the Nothin' Fancy Cafe in Vernon, to watch returns.

Tenney spoke to supporters, “Based on early returns, I am confident that our campaign will prevail. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring support for our campaign. I want to thank our volunteers and supporters for all their hard work and the voters of the 22nd District for their confidence. Voters here know that our country and our communities are worth fighting for and I will carry that fight to Washington. America and Upstate New York need champions that will always put the people first. I pledge to always put Central New York and the Southern Tier first. The work to Make Upstate New York and the United States of America Great Again has only just begun.”
