NORWICH – A man who lead police on a chase from Norwich to Guilford was captured with suspected methamphetamine and heroin in his vehicle on Friday morning.
According to City of Norwich Police Department Detective Sergeant Reuben Roach, shortly after midnight on Friday, December 11, the Norwich Police Department observed a vehicle with New Jersey plates in the City of Norwich.
Roach said after running the plates an officer got an alert that the vehicle’s plates had been swapped, and after attempting a stop on Hale Street the driver, Tyler J. Conkling, 23 of Norwich failed to comply.
Conkling sped off and after a combined effort from the Norwich Police Department, Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police he was later captured following a vehicle crash in the Town of Guilford.
Conkling was charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, first-degree reckless endangerment, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and driving while ability impaired by drugs.
