CHENANGO COUNTY – A number of people were indicted for violent felonies in December including one case of second degree murder involving the shooting of a Sherburne man.
Kelly Gillett, 36, of Johnson City, was indicted with second degree murder for allegedly using a 20-gauge shotgun to murder her boyfriend inside a home at 7 Gould Drive in the Village of Sherburne on Oct. 19.
According to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office Gillett dialed 911 at about 11 a.m. to report the shooting. Police said she later told officers she was responsible for the killing and said she needed a lawyer. She pleaded not guilty in Town of Sherburne Court soon after.
The victim, 39-year-old Jonathan Ryan, is a father of three children, all of them from a previous relationship. Sheriff investigators said none of the children were at the home at the time of the shooting and were staying at a separate residence.
Other individuals facing felony indictments are charged with crimes including rape, criminal sex acts, and drug sales.
Chris P. Wood was indicted for first-degree rape, a class B felony following an investigation by police in the City of Norwich.
According to the indictment, on November 8 Wood forcibly engaged in sexual intercourse with a victim.
