DELHI – The Norwich Purple Tornado boys varsity basketball team hit the road on Saturday February 27th when they took on the undefeated Delaware Academy Bulldogs. The Bulldogs led by their 1,000 point scorer in Alex Haight held on against the Tornado’s second-half offensive attack winning 56-50.
Delhi stormed out of the gates right from the tip, scoring 37 first half points all the while, tormenting the Tornado offense. The Bulldog’s formerly mentioned Haight scored 18 points in the first half, with teammate Logan Aikens pitching in seven points, making the duo responsible for the majority of Delhi’s offensive attack.
“Delhi came out very aggressive and disrupted our offense. We didn’t handle it well in the first half and that is a credit to them,” said Norwich Head Coach Tom Collier.
With Delhi leading the Tornado 37-22 at the break, Norwich needed to change the tide and fast.
Norwich proceeded to get their offense going. The quartet of Torin Lawrence, Carson Thornton, Lex Genute and Keegan Franklin combined for 26 of Norwich’s 28 second-half points, all the while holding the potent Delhi offense to 19 total second half points.
“We made some changes at half time and we played much better in the second half and made a run at them to get it down to four,” said Collier.
