OTEGO – The Norwich Purple Tornado Boys varsity basketball team kicked off the turn of the calendar into March in style by picking up a win over Unatego by a score of 60-38 on Monday night.

The Tornado offense started out at quite the pace- scoring 22 points in the opening minutes due in part by seven points by senior point guard Carson Thornton and eight points by junior forward Keegan Franklin. Norwich’s high first quarter energy and defensive pressure rattled Unatego as the Tornado caused a lot of empty trips for the green and white hosts.

Unatego’s Shane Barber did his best to keep his team in the ballgame as he scored 10 points in the opening half. Despite Barber’s best efforts, Norwich cruised into halftime with a cool ten point lead over Unatego at 28-18.

“Our whole game plan was to spread the court and run, and we did a really good job at that” said Norwich Head Coach Tom Collier.

Norwich’s offensive firepower went right after work out of the halftime break; offering up a 22 point third period. The Tornado trio of Franklin, Thornton and Logan Ford scored 21 of their team’s 22 points in the stanza, opening up a 20 point lead in favor of the Purple visitors entering the final quarter of play.

Norwich held onto their lead as they defeated Unatego 60-38.
