SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville varsity boys basketball team was back in action Wednesday night in a repeat of their Monday March 1st match-up against Canastota. S-E dropped their most recent match-up with Canastota 40-33, but on Wednesday, the Marauders flipped the script on their way to defeating the Red Raiders 48-46.
With both teams jockeying for the lead, Sherburne-Earlville clung to a tight 19-18 lead by the time the halftime buzzer rang. The visiting Red Raiders duo of Nate Wood and Clay Roberts would each score seven and six points respectively to pace the Canastota offense. The Marauders proved equal to the task as Brock Weidman poured in seven points in the second stanza while Taylor Gryzmkowski, Zach Trass, Robert Hill and Dennis Miles contributed buckets of their own to balance out the offense.
After each squad traded buckets back and forth in the third period Canastota was successful in knotting the game up at 34 apiece entering the final quarter. For S-E it was all hands on deck, and Canastota just had to try to will themselves to the win.
