NORWICH- The Purple Tornado Boys Basketball team closed out their season by defeating the Edmeston Panthers 83-65 on Saturday night.
Both teams stormed out of the gate early with Edmeston’s Josh Martin drilling home 12 points- all from long range in the opening minutes to push his club ahead to a one point lead by the conclusion of the first period. Martin is Edmeston’s three-point specialist bringing into Saturday’s matchup an impressive 291 three pointers made.
After the first quarter, Norwich changed their defensive game plan.
“We changed our defensed to more of a scramble” said Norwich Head Coach Tom Collier, “every time Edmeston set a pick on us, we doubled Martin.”
While the Panthers expended their energy and endurance in the first half, the Tornado made the adjustments necessary to run Edmeston out of Jack Jones gymnasium in the second half.
The Tornado duo of Eli Craddock and Keegan Franklin combined for 15 points in the third period while Torin Lawrence scored 11 points in the fourth period for Norwich.
“By the end of the third quarter, we were in control of the game, we slowed things down and executed our offense” added Collier.
Torin Lawrence led Norwich with 20 points, Keegan Franklin scored 18 points and Eli Craddock pitched in 17 points.
Greg Devries led Edmeston with 24 points on the night with Josh Martin adding in 21 of his own.
