SHERBURNE – In her second to last high school basketball game, S-E senior Tessa Cole became the all-time leading scorer in school history for the Marauders varsity girls basketball program on Saturday March 13th against the Hamilton Emerald Knights. Cole scored a game-high 22 points for Sherburne-Earlville as the Emerald Knights marched on- winning 56-44.
Entering into the third period, Hamilton lead 31-18, this is when the Marauders’ Tessa Cole took matters into her own hands scoring eight of S-E’s 10 in the quarter.
Cole’s record breaking shot occurred when she went to the free throw line in the third period and promptly sunk a shot from the charity stripe to surpass former S-E standout Lily Berg in all-time career points. Berg, held the previous school record with 1,341 varsity points. However, Cole wasn’t done yet, scoring several more points in the fourth quarter to extend her already impressive point total- bringing her career point total to 1,349.
In addition Tessa Cole’s game-high 22 points to pace Sherburne-Earlville; the 2020 third team all-state guard also recorded 10 rebounds, five steals and three blocks; all of which were teams highs in the contest.
Hamilton’s Kyleigh Pearson scored 19 points to lead the Emerald Knights and Lindsay Speer scored 18 points.
