NORWICH – The Norwich Fire Department responded to the scene of smoke coming from the DCMO BOCES Sugar House yesterday afternoon, and officials said fortunately there wasn’t significant damage to the building.
According to Norwich Fire Department Chief Jan Papelino, at approximately 4:42 p.m., on Wednesday, a 911 call was received with the caller stating that heavy smoke was spotted from the DCMO BOCES Sap House.
Papelino said upon arrival emergency responders noticed a pot that had appeared to have had sap in it was left on a gas stove cooking. He said the sap had boiled down to just sugar, which caught fire.
He added that no one was injured in the incident, and the building doesn’t appear to have sustained any significant damage.
