Five Indicted For Crimes Including Assault And Drug Sales

CHENANGO COUNTY – Five individuals were indicted by a Chenango County grand jury for felony crimes including the alleged assault of an eight-month-old, firearm thefts, and drug sales followed by a high-speed chase.

Zachary J. Ostrander was indicted for second-degree assault, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

According to his indictment, during the last week of November in 2020, while in the Town of Greene, Ostrander intentionally caused physical injury to an eight month old child by striking him on the lower back and buttocks.

The indictment states that the strikes did cause the victim to receive injuries consisting of significant bruising and abrasions.

Tyler J. Conkling was indicted for two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, class B felonies, first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony, and driving while ability impaired by drugs, a class A misdemeanor.

The indictment alleges that on December 11, 2020 while in the City of Norwich, Conkling had 10 baggies of heroin with the intent to sell it, along with a scale, and cash. It adds that he also had a baggie containing 20 Oxycodone MG pills.

On the same day, the indictment claims Conkling fled the Norwich Police Department and Chenango County Sheriff’s Office at more than 80 miles per hour, which eventually led to him crashing a vehicle into a tree.
