SIDNEY – Despite the unfamiliar course and the unfamiliar timing of a fall sports cross country meet, UV-G-MU's combined cross country squads swept the boys and girls top spots in a five-way meet at Sidney on Tuesday.

Running on Sidney's 2.88-kilometer course (1.79 miles), Gracie Gorrell captured the girls' race in a course-record 12 minutes, 47.8 seconds.

Gorrell was 80 seconds ahead of the next-best runner, and her teammates - Angel Porter, Cooper Hine, and Kaitlyn Finch - placed seventh through ninth respectively.

For the boys, UV-GMU's Brennan was equal to Gorrell's task taking the overall top spot, while also setting a course-record timing 10 minutes, 51 seconds.

"It was great to see how well all of the athletes did, given the shortened preseason," said UV-GMU coach Bob Mackey. "Our UV-GMU girls' team is very young, and all of them that ran tonight are first-time varsity cross country runners."
