NORWICH – With a chance to punch a ticket to the finals of the Section IV Class A Championships held on Saturday April 24th in Maine-Endwell, the Norwich Purple Tornado girls varsity swim team hit the pool on Thursday night for a chance to extend their season. With a cumulative of over 100 seconds of personal bests performed by the lady Tornado, the team was peaking at the right time.

“I’m so proud, [I] don’t even know what to say… they just make me love this sport. Just never know where it’s going to go with an 8 week season, but these girls nailed it. We are so grateful just to have been able to go this far with championships” said Norwich head coach Saundra Gantt on her team’s performance.

“We know a lot of teams aren’t getting that opportunity, so [the girls] just wanted to have fun and they swam so well!”

In the first event of the evening, the 200 yard medley relay, the quartet of Abby Hansen, Kaitlyn Blaisure, Nina Kman and Angela Carlson finished first in a fast time of 1:58.8; beating their seed time by just over two seconds.

In 200 yard freestyle, Mikayla Sastri finished first with a time of 2:17.99, beating her seed time by five seconds. Norwich junior Tanner Olds finished right behind Sastri in second place timing 2:21.54; Olds beat her seed time by six seconds.
