Turkey season starts this Saturday and runs for the entire month of May.
Hopefully the regular season goes as well as the Youth Weekend did. Zach, the youth hunter I took out with a friend, pulled the trigger on a two-year old tom at 5:50! It was the shortest, easiest turkey hunt I have been a part of. One thing that made the 3 toms come in on a rope was a strutting decoy. They had the numbers and knew it, so they came in charging once they crested the ridge and saw the decoy. We were prepared and had the right decoy for the situation. However, turkeys can react to decoys negatively in certain situations. Knowing what decoy to use and how to set it can minimize the chances of a negative interaction with a turkey.
