NORWICH – For over 20 years now, the Sheriff's Office has been an active participant in the NYS Governor Traffic Safety Committee's Child Passenger Safety Training Program, which is designed to raise awareness and convey accurate technical information about proper child restraint usage.
According to representatives of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, New York State law requires all children to be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle, until they reach their 8th birthday. They said effective November 1, 2019, all children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing car seat.
The sheriff’s office’s Child Safety Seat Inspection/Installation Program provides free child passenger safety seat inspections, to include a new certified car seat for any existing seats that have reached their expiration date, or are deemed unsafe for any reason.
