CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has charged two men with crimes including grand larceny after an eight month long investigation into a stolen construction trailer taken from a Sherburne business.
According to Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting, Chad A. Youngs, 31, of Sherburne and Clifford J. Smith, Sr., 34, of McDonough stole a construction trailer in 2020 from a Sherburne business.
Cutting said on September 30, 2020 the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint that a construction trailer was stolen from the Sherburne business.
“On November 6, 2020, sheriff's detectives executed a search warrant at a location in the Town of McDonough,” said Cutting. “While conducting the search warrant, Sheriff's Detectives located the stolen construction trailer.”
“When the trailer was discovered, it had been repainted and the side racks had been cut off from the trailer in an attempt to conceal its original identity.”
He said the trailer had been severely damaged and was inoperable, and no arrests were made at the time the trailer was located.
