NORWICH – A Norwich man is facing arson charges following reports of a fire earlier this month on Cortland Street in the City of Norwich.

Jason A. Beardsley, 38, of Norwich was charged with third-degree arson, a class C felony, and fifth-degree arson, a class A misdemeanor following the incident.

At approximately 6:24 p.m. on Tuesday May 4, the Norwich City Police Department received a radio dispatch to respond to a house fire at the apartment building of 57 Cortland Street in the City of Norwich.

Norwich Police Officers responded to the scene with the City of Norwich Fire Department, and the fire was eventually knocked down by fire personnel.

Why do the NPD get all the credit for fighting a fire and the ensuing arson investigation? Seems like the NFD did the lion's share of the work here. Or does the training to be an NPD officer include intensive instruction in arson investigation?
