CHENANGO COUNTY – Chenango County has partnered with Solstice Community Solar to bring affordable, local clean energy to its residents, buildings, and businesses.
According to Solstice Senior Partnerships Coordinator Alex Goldfarb, through a subscription-based model, this community solar offering gives households within Chenango County access to energy generated by a solar farm located in Norwich.
Solstice representatives said those who enroll will also receive an estimated 10 percent savings on their monthly electric costs with no installation or added payment required.
“Community solar expands energy savings to those who cannot install solar on their homes or afford to buy expensive renewables,” said Goldfarb. “We’re excited to provide this opportunity to many residents for the first time, and to help keep more money in the pockets of Chenango County households and businesses.”
Chenango County Planning Department Director Shane Butler said the project had to be approved through NYSEG before it could be offered to residents, and he encouraged everyone to look into the pros and cons of relying on solar energy.
