Norwich’s Diehl breaks record; Tornado boys defeat SV

NORWICH – It was quite the impressive night for the Purple Tornado varsity track team on Tuesday May 25th as the boys defeated Susquehanna Valley 120- 15, while the NHS girls fell to SV 69-59.

Despite the dual-meet loss, the Norwich girls still showed many strong showings in the meet with their section IV foe.

Norwich’s Robyn Diehl broke the Tornado school record in the pole vault, as she recorded a successful vault of 7’ 7”. The previous record of 7’6” was held by NHS alumnus Liz Eddy and Hannah Kalean.

Diehl continued her success on the evening by joining teammates Angela Carlson, Camille Gordon and Devin Flanagan in the 4x100 meter relay, taking first in the meet with a time of 54.2.

Carlson added in a pair of wins in the long jump and high jump with leaps of 14’ 11” and 4’6” respectively. And 4x100 meter teammate Devin Flanagan added in a first place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.1.

Shakira Alexandre won the shotput for the NHS ladies with a throw of 33’ 5”. Emily Evans had a strong showing in the discus with a throw of 106’9”.

On the boys side, the 4x800 meter relay team of Julian Roque, Makaio Sutton, Zander Sutton and Nolan Reid placed first in a time of 9:49. And the 4x100 meter relay quartet of Jerell Stokes, Anthony Ragonese, Richard Fuller and Ryan Holden sprinted to the time of 47.2.

The 4x400 meter relay squad of Julian Roque, Nolan Reid, Zander Sutton and Richard Fuller won in a time of 3:59.9.

Holden also added in a first place finish in the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.1. Fuller also pitched in top finishes in the 400 meter dash in a quick time of 53.6 along with a 200 meter dash time of 24.8.

Lex Genute claimed victories in the 110 high hurdles in a time of 19.9 and the 400 intermediate hurdles in a time of 1:10.

Julian Roque added to victories in the 1600m with a time of 4:50.8 and in the 800m in a time of 2:10.1.

Eli Craddock recorded wins in the long-jump and triple jump with leaps of 20’3” and 40’9” and Lucas Craddock added in a first place finish in the high jump, recorded a height of 5’6”.

Makaio Sutton scored another win for Norwich in the 3200meter race in a time of 10:50.

PJ Bookamer received first place accolades for his 33’4” throw in the shotput, and Alex Smietana threw the discus 91’11” for his top finish to round out all of the victories for the NHS boys.

The Norwich Purple Tornado boys and girls varsity track teams will be back in action on Friday night at Norwich High School when they host their ‘Elite Meet Invite’ at 4:00 p.m.
