PHARSALIA – The Chenango County Department of Public Works will close a section of County Road 42 on Tuesday, and officials said they hope the closure will only last a day or two at most.
According to Chenango County Department of Public Works Shawn G. Fry, the reason for the project is a culvert that needs to be replaced due to old age. Fry said a culvert is a pipe that runs under a section of road allowing water to pass through it, preventing road washouts and damage.
He said the project will take place starting on the morning of June 8. He added that the project will require the closure of County Road 42, between New York State Route 23 and Beardsley Road in the Town of Pharsalia, and is expected to take approximately one day to be completed.
“The plan is to shut down 42 for hopefully just one day, that way it hopefully won’t be too much of an inconvenience for people traveling in the area,” said Fry. “This is a replacement project, there’s been a culvert here for years and it’s gotten to the age where it needs to be replaced.”
