SOFTBALL

Greene softball finishes on high note

GREENE - Greene finished off its spring season on a high note downing visiting Bainbridge-Guilford, 6-2, on Friday afternoon.

Olivia Kennedy pitched a two-hitter for Greene (10-2) striking out 11 B-G batters.

McKenzie Scott led Greene at the plate finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI. 

Alex Brown also drove in two runs for Greene.

Ashley Matthews had the Bobcats' lone RBI in the defeat.

GOLF

Waterville 148, Sherburne-Earlville 182

SHERBURNE - Unbeaten Waterville fired the lowest team score at Mountain Top Golf Course this season defeating the Marauders on Thursday.

The Waterville foursome compiled a four-person average score of 37.5, and was led by Gabe Williams' co-medalist score of a 1-under-par 34.

In the loss, the Marauders' Andrew Fern continued to stay hot in the late stages of the season.

Fern matched Williams shooting a 1-under-par 34 as well.  Brogan Winton (44) and Keegan Kane (46) made up the rest of S-E's top-three scores.

S-E's record fell to 2-8.

GREENE - Greene secured a winning season on Friday defeating visiting Oxford at Genegantslet Golf Club.

Clayton Leonard, playing from the third man spot, paced the Trojans (6-4) shooting a match-low 41 over the par-35 front nine.  Scout McCumiskey provided a solid runner-up performance tossing in a 44 for Greene.

Christian Paden and Liam O'Brien shared top honors for Oxford (4-6) carding matching 50s.

The Class D sectional tournament, which will include most of Chenango County's golf teams, is scheduled June 8 at Delhi University's golf course.

Unadilla Valley/G-MU 229, Bainbridge-Guilford 241

GUILFORD - Unadilla Valley finished the spring season with a 10-0 record beating host Bainbridge-Guilford at Sundown Golf Course on Friday.

Dominick led UV /GMU - and earned overall medalist honors -- shooting a 3-over-par 38.  Drew Emrich (45) and Brandon Kneale (47) completed UV/GMU's top three scorers.

Carson Benjamin led B-G (8-2) shooting a 43, and Caleb Presley added a 49.

BASEBALL

Unadilla Valley/G-MU 14, Bainbridge-Guilford 2

BAINBRIDGE - Unadilla Valley/G-MU blew open a tight game with six runs in the sixth, and it tacked on four more in the seventh to support the complete-game pitching performance of senior Gavin Bonczkowski on Friday.

Bonczkowski scatted five hits, and allowed two earned runs to earn the victory. He struck out eight and walked just two B-G batters.

In the sixth, Cameron Osborne, Timmy Postma, Dalton Proskine, and Owen Hill had RBIs extending a three-run lead to 10-1.

Proskine piled on three more RBI in the seventh with a bases-clearing double.

Proskine totaled four RBI, Postma drove in three, and Osborne had two ribbies. Colin Grant added a 3-for-4 day at the plate, and Bonczkowski helped his own cause with two hits and two runs scored.

Harpursville 9, Afton 8 (9 innings)

AFTON  - Harpursville rallied from a 5-0 deficit, and completed the comeback victory with a single run in the top of the ninth to beat host Afton on Friday.

The Crimson Knights led 5-3 after two innings, and received big offensive contributions from Brody Oleksak, Michael Roach, and George Palmetier. That Afton trio each finished with two RBI apiece.

Harpursville rebounded with four runs in the fifth to grab the lead, and forced Afton to rally with a single run in the bottom of the seventh forcing extra innings.

Harpursville was led by Colton Sakowsky's three-RBI night, while Jayden Yereb drove in a pair of runs.

Chenango Forks 7, Greene 5

CHENANGO FORKS - Chenango Forks rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to escape with a two-run victory over visiting Greene on Friday.

Zack Young had two RBI to lead the Blue Devils' attack.

Grayson Flanagan and Liam Flanagan had two RBI apiece for the Trojans. Parker Flanagan added two hits in the loss.
