MARATHON - Unadilla Valley-GMU backed up its unbeaten spring season with a fifth-place team finish at the Section IV Class C tournament at Maple Hill Golf Club on Tuesday.

UV-GMU finished one spot ahead - and just two strokes - of sixth-place Bainbridge-Guilford.

Heading up the UV-GMU linksters were Dominick Hartwell and Brandon Kneale.  Hartwell shot an 86, and Kneale was just two shots back at 88.

Carson Benjamin (90), Thomas Lord (94), and Caleb Presley (95) carded the top-three scores for the Bobcats.

The Class D tournament is scheduled for today at Delhi University. Oxford and Greene are expected to compete.

BASEBALL

Afton beats Gilboa-Conesville

AFTON -  Afton built a five-run lead after five innings to support winning pitcher Brody Oleksak in a 6-3 victory over Gilboa-Conesvillle on Thursday.

Oleksak pitched six strong innings allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out nine and walked just one.

Brady Buttice fueled the Crimson Knights’ offense with a home run and two RBI. Oleksak helped his own pitching effort with a double and two RBI as well.
