BINGHAMTON - More help may be in store for storm ravaged parts of Chenango and Otsego counties that were heavily damaged by flash flooding over the weekend.

State legislators are calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to request a federal disaster declaration for the area. The action would allow local officials to attain federal dollars to repair damages caused by flooding.

The move is prompted by state representatives of Chenango, Otsego, and Broome counties.

Assemblyman Joe Angelino (R-Assembly District 122), who toured the Chenango-Otsego border to assess damage over the weekend, said towns simply won’t be able to handle the burden of repairs without financial assistance.

“I’ve been to the impacted areas and walked the ground with local officials,” said Angelino. “The amount of damage is beyond their capabilities and we are asking for support and assistance from the state and federal government to help these people.”
