NORWICH — The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is excited to announce another matching grant opportunity in support of the Stone Quarry purchase! NBT Bank will match every donation made to the Chenango Greenway Conservancy, dollar for dollar, up to $5,000.
This generous donation will double the value of contributions made in support of this community project, and is available only for a limited time, through August 27th.
The Conservancy began fundraising in March 2021 with a goal of $300,000 to cover the cost of purchasing the Stone Quarry and improving accessibility with parking, signage and trail construction.
The community response has been tremendous, said Chris Olds, Vice-Chairperson of the Chenango Greenway Conservancy, “we have received so many letters and donations from people who grew up enjoying this beautiful property, so grateful that it will remain open for public use. We are inspired and encouraged by the level of community support and enthusiasm for this project.”
An additional $65,000 is needed by the end of the month to have sufficient funds to purchase the property.
“With hundreds of employees that call Chenango County home, NBT Bank is more than just a Main Street presence—we’re also neighbors and community members,” said NBT Bank President and CEO John H. Watt, Jr. “That is why we’re honored to play a role in helping the Chenango Greenway Conservancy ensure that the Stone Quarry remains available as a space for regional recreation for years to come.”
The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity organized in 2006 to develop a network of multiple use recreation trails in and around the City of Norwich. The Greenway Conservancy has a contract to purchase the Stone Quarry and is conducting a fundraiser to raise enough money to buy it.
