High School Sports Roundup: Soccer, Field Hockey, Golf Greene's and Afton/Harpursville's varsity field hockey teams sported pink t-shirts in it's "Play for a Cure" matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Greene High School. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities to increase awareness of the disease, and raise funds for research. Boys’ Soccer:

Greene 4, Afton/Harpursville 0

GREENE - The Greene boys’ soccer team won its tenth straight game, and improved to 11-1 overall blanking Afton/Harpursville on Wednesday.

Kloden Rapp opened the scoring in the game’s ninth minute tallying off an assist from Cooper Klumpp. Scout McCumiskey made it a two-goal Trojans lead 10 minutes later with Rapp picking up the assist.

Terriek Brown had both Greene goals in the second half, the last one coming with 1:11 remaining.

Greene wraps up its regular season Thursday when it hosts Unadilla  Valley/G-MU.

Westmoreland/Oriskany 4, Sherburne-Earlville 0

WESTMORELAND - Playing at Center State Conference division one leader Westmoreland/Oriskany on Wednesday, Sherburne-Earlville hung tough for one half before host club pulled away with three second-half goals.

Westmoreland/Oriskany’s lone first-half goal came just 10 seconds into the game courtesy of Jack Tamburino.

Caleb Miller had two second-half goals for the victors.

Sherburne-Earlville (2-9-1) hosts Camden at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Field Hockey:

Afton/Harpursville 3, Greene 2 (overtime)

GREENE - The third time was not the charm for Greene, but it did put forth its most competitive effort against Afton/Harpursville on Wednesday in what was billed as the “Play for a Cure” contest.

Coming off a shutout loss to Afton/Harpursville in the finals of its own tournament last weekend - and a shutout loss to the same club last month - Greene put two tallies on the board to force the extra sudden-victory period.

Sarah Sexton and Makenzie Scott scored in the first and third periods respectively for Greene,

Neither club scored in the final quarter, but Afton/Harpursville’s Lilly Bagg was able to put away the game-winner with just over a minute left in overtime.

 It was Bagg’s second goal of the game.

Golf:

Norwich 233, Oneonta 239

ONEONTA - Norwich’s golf team is closing out its regular season with its best form to date.

In the Tornado’s penultimate match, it recorded a big road victory over Oneonta at Oneonta Country Club on Wednesday.

NHS’s Julien Smith birdied the fourth and sixth holes en route to a match-low 42.  Jacob Morris had a tap-in birdie on the ninth hole to finish with a 44.

“Four of the last five matches, we’ve shot in the 230s,” said Norwich coach David Branham. “We’re getting more consistent every day.”

Aidan Stafford and Braden Reid also broke 50 for Norwich shooting 47 and 48 respectively.

Norwich closes its regular season Thursday at Susquehanna Valley.

Giirls' Soccer:

Unadilla Valley 10, Bainbridge-Guilford 1

NEW BERLIN  - Unadilla Valley and Bainbridge-Guilford resumed its soccer match that was postponed on Sept. 8 due to inclement weather.

The Storm, playing in much better weather, poured it on from an offensive perspective reaching double-digit goals to complete the rout.

Kadence York had half of UV’s goals scoring five times. Jaiden Schrag added a hat trick, while Isabella Potter and Kailee Figger scored goals as well.
