NORWICH – At the October 2, meeting of the Chenango Republican County Committee, Chenango County Clerk candidate Brian F. Wessels and Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr. were unanimously endorsed as Republican candidates for the 2021 general election. These two county-wide offices appear on the ballot every four years.
Brian Wessels won the Republican nomination after beating opponent Bill Smith in the primary election in June. “I am honored to be the Republican nominee and earning the endorsement of the Chenango Republican County Committee”, said Wessels. “The County Clerk is a non-partisan elected position and I will ensure that all customers of the County Clerk’s office are served equally and fairy under my leadership.”
Sheriff Cutting is seeking re-election to a position he has held since 2009. Having served his entire professional career in law enforcement in Chenango County, Sheriff Cutting worked his way through the ranks starting as a Deputy Sheriff on the road patrol and earning successive promotions to the highest-ranking law enforcement position in the county. “I am grateful to be endorsed by the Chenango Republican County Committee for my re-election to Chenango County Sheriff. I am passionate about protecting the people of Chenango County by leading a team of law enforcement professionals that also care deeply about serving and protecting our communities”, said Cutting.
The committee also re-appointed Mary Lou Monahan to the position of Republican Election Commissioner, a position she has held since 2014. “Mary Lou does an outstanding job for our candidates and for voters. Her expertise and guidance ensure our local Board of Elections operates efficiently and effectively and continues to provide exceptional service despite many very challenging changes to New York State election law. We’re very lucky to have her as our Election Commissioner”, said Committee Secretary Matthew Caldwell.
Early voting begins Saturday, October 23rd and runs through Sunday, October 31st. The general election will be Tuesday, November 2nd.
