BINGHAMTON- Talk about flipping the script and stunning the audience, the one-win Chenango Valley Warriors defeated the #9 ranked Norwich Purple Tornado on Friday night by a final score of 20-6 in a late-season Section IV Class C upset.

“We got outplayed. It was pretty evident…CV played a good game and they executed better than us” said Norwich Head Coach Mike Chrystie on the Tornado’s loss. “They ran the midline pretty well, it can be tough to defend…their quarterback (Donovan Tomm) got away from us a couple plays and that was the deciding factor defensively.”

Tomm specifically was relied on heavily by the Warriors as he averaged 12.5 yards per carry as he amassed a total of 175 rushing yards on the night. One of the most important plays Tomm made was an 80 yard touchdown run with 10:59 remaining in the contest to create a two-score game, but in the process also created the game’s final margin of victory.

However, to Chenango Valley’s credit, their game plan was much more than just a one-man band. The Warriors jumped on the Tornado early- igniting to a 10-0 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter via a Carter Klein one-yard TD run and a successful 31-yard field goal attempt by Caleb Barkwell.
