MARATHON- Norwich Purple Tornado senior Makaio Sutton overcame the wet and slick racing conditions to place among the higher echelon of regional cross-country runners in the varsity boys’ unseeded race at the Marathon Invitational on Saturday, October 16th. Sutton, who has been the number one runner for the boys’ varsity team continued his impressive season placing sixth out of the 141 runner field, crossing the tape in a time of 18:57.
Freshman runner Caden Sutton finished 66th for the Tornado with a time of 21:45. Junior harrier Zander Sutton placed 71st in a time of 22:03. Purple Tornado senior Zach Russell rounded out the NHS squad with a 127th finish in a time of 27:36.
In the girls’ varsity unseeded race, Norwich freshman Annie Boland placed 29th out of 87 runners with a time of 25:58.3 to pace the Tornado. Fellow freshman and cross-country newcomer Kyra Brunick-Davis placed 53rd in a time of 29:16.6. Norwich seniors Robyn Diehl and Lexi Slate placed 76th and 85th respectively. Diehl crossed the finish line in a time of 32:57.3 and Slate in a time of 36:58.5.
