The Chenango County Democratic Committee is endorsing the following candidates.
For the 6th Judicial Supreme Court we endorse Molly Fitzgerald. Molly has 14 years of experience as a Supreme Court justice; 12 on the trial bench and 2 at the Appellate level (2nd highest court in state.) She was also the Administrative Judge (2016-2019) for the 6th Judicial District, wherein she supervised the running of the courts in all 10 counties of the 6th. She is dedicated to her family, job, and people of the 6th!
In the race for Chenango County Sheriff we have endorsed Debra Cubbedge who puts safety first, for law enforcement officers and the public. Ensuring that all parties are safe is more important than demanding immediate compliance or making an immediate arrest. With community input she will explore better ways to serve the public, knowing that cannot be everything to everyone, and other assistance may, at times, be needed. Officers will then be free to do police work, protecting life and property, investigating crimes, gathering and presenting evidence, etc., with appropriate attention given to those crimes that make us feel unsafe in our personal lives, such as domestic violence, sexual assault, home break-ins and theft of personal property. Improved services for incarcerated people will also lead to decreased recidivism and a safer community.
John Quattrocchi has our endorsement for Mayor of the City of Norwich. John believes in the citizens of Norwich will work with them to meet the challenges ahead, building a safe, inclusive, and innovative city we can all be proud of. The city is overdue for bold, rational leadership and his goal is to make sure the residents’ concerns are heard, businesses are informed and the younger generation who choose to reside here have something to look forward to and be a part of. He’d like
to be known as a leader who represents ordinary people. Among his goals are increasing revenue in creative ways, committing to infrastructure for proactive rather than reactive maintenance,
enhancing the use of city parks, promoting Norwich for new business and working with present business owners so their businesses can thrive, looking for ways to increase public services such as having a curbside leaf vacuum, working closely with drug counseling/treatment centers in fighting
the opioid crisis, and engaging city residents to participate in their city government, their community and their neighborhood.
As a candidate for Ward 2 Alderman in the City of Norwich, Fred Gee has our endorsement. Ward 2 residents are most concerned with declining property values and personal safety due to increased use of illegal drugs. He supports Friends of Recovery and will work to facilitate the establishment of a local recovery program. He will support landlords in their efforts to protect their property and will work to strengthen local bylaws and codes so that the city has leverage to intervene if landlords/ property managers refuse to evict those who commit felony drug crimes on their properties. The City of Norwich must actively pursue all sources of revenue to keep property taxes below the cap. He will work to provide incentives to attract new businesses and remote workers that guarantee a positive return on any investment and increase sales tax base revenue and thus supports cannabis dispensaries. Fred will encourage/lead a transition to green and renewable energy in all purchasing, infrastructure and planning decisions.
In the town of Otselic we have endorsed Michael Foor-Pessin for Supervisor and both Heather Cristofaro and Adam Schmidt for Town Council. Together they will work to restore the financial integrity of the Town of Otselic, by insuring that accurate records are provided to the town board and state comptroller as required. They will set a high priority for solving the problems with the water district. Additionally they intend to establish a website to facilitate communication and to enhance technology in the every day running of the town and to initiate short and long-term planning with active input from all members of the community. Their goal is to work hard to secure as much state and federal money as possible to benefit the community.
Democrats are running in many other local races and we urge you to support them as we work for social and economic recovery and the rights of all.
