NORWICH – This December will be filled with holiday fun at Chenango Arts Council. Programming will range from much-loved annual classics looked for every year to a musical comedy improvised on the spot with songs made up from audience suggestions.
Wednesday, December 1, 8, 15 and 22, 2021, Chenango Arts Council will join Guernsey Memorial Library, The City of Norwich, and the Earlville Opera House’s Community Regrant Program to present four festive films in the Martin W. Kappel Theater. The “Merry Movies” and popcorn are free and start at 7 pm. In date order, they are “White Christmas”, “It’s A Wonderful Life”, “A Christmas Carol”, and “Meet Me In Saint Louis.”
The Arts Council will also be offering online programming Tuesday, December 7 at 5:30 pm, when they join Chenango County Historical Society for a live ZOOM Historical Cooking Tutorial.
Marie Moren walks viewers through an 1890’s recipe for fruitcake that originated in Sherburne, NY and is now featured in the Historical Society’s local cookbook, “Made Nine Pies.”
The workshop is free, but registration is required at ChenangoArts.org. To follow along, bakers will need:
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 cups molasses
1 cup butter
1 cup sour milk (buttermilk)
2 cups raisins
6 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
Spices all kinds
This workshop is part of Chenango Arts Council’s Guide to the New World of Arts and free-of-charge thanks to sponsorship by NBT Bank. Learn more about CAC’s virtual programing at ChenangoArts.org.
Along with seasonal staples, Chenango Arts Council brings “Broadway’s Next Hit Musical” to the Martin W. Kappel Theater Saturday, December 11 at 7pm. It will truly be unlike anything seen in Norwich before, as the performers invent songs, dialog, characters and choreography from audience suggestions while the show is happening. Tickets are available at ChenangoArts.org or by calling 607-336-2787. Student, Member and Senior discounts are available.
“It’s always exciting to bring something innovative and new to the community,” says Executive Director Alecia ONeill, “but this time of year is about remembering our favorites, too. I’m so pleased with the balance we’ve struck, and that virtual programming is part of our regular season!”
“Merry Movies” and “Broadway’s Next Hit Musical” are made possible with public funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and administered by The Earlville Opera House. Chenango Arts Council would also like to thank NBT Bank, Preferred Mutual, Guernsey Memorial Library, and The City Of Norwich for their support.
