OXFORD - Shenendehowa took the suspense out of the team title competition at the 58th Annual Clyde Cole Wrestling Tournament

Twelve Shenendehowa wrestlers placed en route to 217 points. That total was 96 better than runner-up Groton.

The battle  for second-place proved most significant as Groton had to hold off Chenango County entries Greene-Oxford, B-G/Afton/Harpursville,  and Norwich, along with STAC competitor Chenango Valley.

Greene-Oxford had four runner-up finishes to take third with 113.5 points, B-G/A/H had two individual titles to place fifth, and Norwich led Chenango County with seven overall place finishers totaling 110 points.

The Bears' Darren Florance kicked off the evening at 102 pounds with a 16-1 technical fall victory over Norwich's Maverick Beckwith.

B-G/A/H's other champion came at 160 pounds as Brady Buttice narrowly edged Greene-Oxford's Lyric Libbey, 3-1.

Adding a runner-up finish for Norwich was Brady Smith at 152 pounds, while Greene Oxford's Tyler Brown (172) and Hunter Page (189) added second-place finishes.

Norwich was one wrestler away from likely finishing second or third in team scoring, said head coach Bob Hagenbuch.  Mason Edwards, one of the top seeds at 160 pounds, suffered an injury in his opening match of the tournament, and was unable to wrestle the rest of the way.
