NORWICH – With the holidays perfectly positioned at year’s end, it is no wonder why this time is marked with sentiment and reflection. Furnished with candlelight and fires aglow, the short, cold days of winter bring warm memories to surface.
And as we pull out the decorations and ornaments made over generations, and read recipes in our grandmothers’ hand, it’s guaranteed that loved ones come to visit, in heart and mind.
For the members of the Norwich Quarter Cemetery committee, we honor your loved ones and ours and community members alike, year-round. Our cemetery is unique because we take care of the grounds, unlike most in this area, where upkeep is solely maintained by the county.
The yearlong efforts include mowing, brush removal, grave repair, and general maintenance. Our best effort is given every day of the year to maintain the sanctuary and dignity that comes with cemetery upkeep, but we need assistance. This past year, the stone wall that lines the front of the cemetery has pushed out from shifting grounds and weather conditions; we are hoping to fix it prior to it completely giving way.
Of course, another holiday keepsake is the generosity of the season. With so many in need, we understand that dollars only stretch so much, food pantries and making children's holiday wishes come true are paramount. But if able, we would also appreciate a contribution.
The Norwich Quarter Cemetery wishes you the happiest of holidays. May health and happiness be gifted to all, and remember it's not the presents under the tree or menorah, but the people gathered around it. And while it's exciting to see our stockings full, take stock of the people in your life, of today and years ago, and honor each in kind.
If able to donate, please make checks out to the Norwich Quarter Cemetery and mail to: Norwich Quarter Cemetery, Robert Evans, 5404 State Highway 23, Norwich NY 13815.
