NORWICH — The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is proud to announce the completion of the Stone Quarry purchase. After almost a year of fundraising, the purchase was completed last week.
The Conservancy began fundraising in March of 2021, with a goal of $300,000 to cover the cost of purchasing the Stone Quarry and improving accessibility with parking, signage, and trail construction.
“We are grateful for the tremendous support of the community in making this acquisition possible,” said Sharon Pelosi, Chairperson of the Chenango Greenway Conservancy. “This beautiful property will now remain open for public use for future generations.”
We recognize the generous contributions from the Frederick B. and Ramoa E. Mirabito Foundation, the Greater Norwich Foundation, Roger W. Follet Foundation, the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, The Thomas M. & Esther C. Flanagan Charitable Trust, Reese-Marshall Inc., NBT Bank, the Family of Timothy Evans, Craig Creative Services, Hercules Properties LLC, Run Chenango, the Chenango Bird Club, the Bullthistle Hiking Club, The Galena Growlers, Laral Management, Thompson Brothers, Inc., Stroh Painting LLC, Preferred Mutual, Advanced Fire Protection, Principal Design Engineers, Gilligan’s Island, and hundreds of individual donors.
Moving forward, the organization is developing plans to improve public access to the property, including signage, parking, and trail improvements. We are hoping to engage the community and Stone Quarry neighbors in developing access plans that clearly delineates public and private areas, permissible activities, and allows for sufficient off-street parking.
Our first goal will be to improve access to the overlook so more people will have an opportunity to enjoy the incredible vista from the Stone Quarry. Fundraising to reach the $300,000 goal to fund site improvements will continue.
The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) public charity organized in 2006 to develop a network of multiple use recreation trails in and around the City of Norwich.
