NORWICH – The Purple Tornado girls varsity basketball team snapped a two game losing streak with a 66-36 victory over the New Hartford Spartans on Monday January 3rd. A significant part in the NHS victory was in large part to a 39-16 first half lead and Norwich senior Emily Evans.

Evans recorded her second 30 point game of the season while putting on a first-half offensive clinic by dropping 22 of her game high 30 points in the opening 16 minutes of play to excel the Purple’s first half advantage. In addition to Evans’ offensive excellence, Norwich proved to be potent defensively in first half by allowing only five field goals by the intermission. Notably, Norwich’s defensive pressure was too much for the Spartans as no New Hartford player reached double-digit scoring

In addition to Evan’s 30 points for Norwich, fellow NHS seniors Maddy Morris and Mackenzie Hess each reached double-figures with Morris record 16 points and Hess adding in 11 points.

Norwich heads back to the hardwood tonight when they host their longtime rival Oneonta Yellowjackets at Jack Jones Gymnasium with tip-off scheduled for 7:30pm
