Oxford 45, Walton 41

OXFORD - Down two key starters, Oxford used a big second-quarter run to take the lead for good in Tuesday’s victory over visiting Walton.

Madalyn Barrows scored a game-high 33 points, outdueling Walton’s top scorer Jacqlyn Gransbury, who finished with 23.

“Madalyn carried the scoring load, including 15 in the second quarter, however, all seven players contributed significantly in a variety of ways,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer.  “For the second game in a row, we were short three players. After the first 20 minutes of the first game, we’ve figured out a way to be competitive.”

Down by seven to Walton after one quarter, the Blackhawks closed the game in the first four minutes of the quarter, and finished the half with 12 straight points to lead 28-19.

Barrows had eight points in the final surge, while Madison Long and Ava Benjamin added key buckets.
