BOYS' BASKETBALL

Harpursville 52, Oxford 44

OXFORD - Harpursville finally created some separation from the Blackhawks late in the third quarter as it held off a stern effort from the host club.

Ethan Sakowsky buried the two threes for the Hornets, which turned a one-possession game into a double-digit lead.

Along the way, Luke Merrill was nearly impossible to stop as the Harpursville standout scored 29 of his game-high 31 points through three quarters.

"My guys played one of their best games of the season," said Oxford coach Booker Davis. "It was within two (points) for a lot of the game…Merrill played great, and we had a hard time containing him."
