OXFORD — Are you planning your garden and looking for something new and hardy to plant? Do you have seeds saved from last year that you’d like to give away? Stop by the Annual Community Seed Giveaway at the Oxford Winter Farmers’ Market this Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., located in the garage outside the Fellowship Hall of the United Church of Oxford, 16 Fort Hill Park (Merchant Street entrance).
It’s inevitable that we all buy and save more seeds than we can possibly plant. Community Seed Giveaways are a great way to ensure that no seed goes unplanted. And this year, there will be a special area at the Seed Giveaway where students and children can "Plant a Seed and Watch it Grow!"
Attendees will learn the essentials of starting their own garden, including planting and caring for seedlings. Supplies will be provided for children to plant some seeds in potting soil and take them home so they can grow into seedlings. Bring your extra seeds if you have them, but don’t worry if you don’t have seeds to give away. There are always more than enough.
Indoors, more than a dozen vendors will be offering quality seasonal produce; local meats; cheeses and dairy; fresh baked breads, pies, cookies and scones; locally grown and milled grains and flours; local syrup and honey; hard ciders; jams and jellies; and handmade soaps and artisan crafts for the home.
