NORWICH – CDO Workforce in Norwich is offering free, in-person training to support job seekers' efforts to successfully apply for job opportunities and attain employment. The four-day “Jobs Jump-Start” training series will run from Monday, April 11 to Thursday, April 14. Class times are 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Training will be held at the Norwich CDO Workforce Center at 1 O’Hara Drive, Norwich, NY.
"I am excited about being able to offer this new job search training,” says CDO Workforce Norwich Employment and Training Director Tylena Daniels. “Jobs Jump-Start will give the participants the knowledge needed to excel in the new generation of job search."
Participants will get an introduction to Microsoft Word, learn how to set up an email account that is synced to their phone, create a resume, and learn how to apply to jobs online. Soft skills and problem resolution will also be covered, in addition to interviewing skills, mock interviews, and more.
Along with a background in hospitality management and education, Instructor Nicole Sortino strives to make acclimating to a digital workplace stress free, and to foster confidence in those around her.
"I'm looking forward to giving participants the tools they need to be successful in a virtual age," Sortino said. "This course aims to help our communities adjust to a new era of employment."
Participants who complete all four days of training will leave with a $50 gift card at the completion of the training series; a folder that includes hard copies of their new resume, reflecting the new skills they have gained; a USB drive to store their new resume in electronic format; submitted job applications; an appropriate social media presence; an email address that is synced to their smartphone; and the confidence to jump start their search for a new job or career.
