NORWICH — The City of Norwich Common Council appointed Town of Norwich resident Erik Scrivener as the new Community Development Director during the special common council meeting on Tuesday, March 1.
Scrivener officially began his new role on Monday, March 28.
"As Community Development Director I think I’ll be a conduit with the community, the city, on community development type projects. Things from solar, to economic development, to housing," said Scrivener. "I'm excited to figure out what the needs are and ways that I can help the city out whether it be, again, any of those areas, through funding, through implementation, through anything involved."
Scrivener began his work in community development and planning at the Otsego County Planning Department as an entry-level planner, and worked his way up to Director of Planning. After ten years, he said he was ready to switch from county-level planning to city-level.
"When I saw the job come up I was interested in coming here, and it fit a lot of the same interests and experience that I have. I enjoy doing the grants, the projects, they make the job interesting," said Scrivener.
"From housing to economic development, ARC, I’ve worked in a number of programs through the state and through the federal government. So I'm hoping I can take the success I had before and bring it here, and also develop some new skills here as well,” he said.
