DEPOSIT — The Greene girls softball team shutout Deposit-Hancock 6-0 Thursday night. The Trojans are now 5-0 on the season.
Greene's Olivia Kennedy continues to dominate on the mound with a strong defense behind her. Kennedy, coming off a no-hitter, allowed just two hits, walked three, and struck out eleven batters.
The two Deposit hits came on a bunt single in the third and a single to left in the seventh.
Coach Judi Mansheffer appreciated the way her defense played.
“Credit has to go the Olivia’s infield teammates as they all cleanly fielded at least one ball each to make the throw to first to record the out,” Mansheffer said. “Abbey Yahner recored 10 put outs at first, which included a ball dug out of the dirt on a throw from third and received a tough throw on the orange side of the base on a ball fielded by catcher McKenzie Scott.”
At the plate, Kennedy walked all four times, but her pinch or “courtesy” runner Kenzie button scored two runs and stole two bases on her behalf.
Coach Judi Mansheffer commented on Kennedy's effort at the plate.
“ Olivia’s hot bat this season didn’t have a chance to get going, but her next three batters in the line up did the job that needed to be done,” said Mansheffer.
Behind Kennedy, Payton Yahner went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. A RBI double in the first and a RBI single in the fourth.
Kylie Farris also went 2-for-4 with three rbis, including a RBI single in the first. Catcher McKenzie Scott had an rbi double in the fourth for Greene.
Deposit pitching combined for nine strikeouts and eight walks in the loss.
Greene looks to continue to stay hot when they compete in the Mudville Tournament this weekend with game one against Wayne on Saturday afternoon. Deposit-Hancock will host Tioga on Saturday before taking on UV/GMU on Monday.
