OXFORD– The Oxford Blackhawks softball team defeated Bainbridge-Guilford 6-3 on Thursday.
The Blackhawks defense shut down B-G with seven groundouts to the infield while left fielder Ava Benjamin caught a deep fly ball in the sixth.
B-G scored three runs in the seventh to not be shut out completely.
For the Blackhawks, Tricia Bohannon went six and a third innings, picking up the win. She struck out 10 batters. Naiomi Smith relieved her in the seventh and picked up the save.
Oxford's offense was led by Taegan Manwarren who went 2-for-3 with two infield singles. Ella Kelsey drove home two runs in the fourth before being tagged out at second. Bohannon, Madison Long, and Leah Oliver each had one RBI.
Coach Ed Holmquist was impressed by his team in the win.
“Our Team worked hard all year and battle every game,” Holmquist said. “Tonight our senior Tricia Bohannon pitched an amazing game and her teammates played tremendous defense.”
