NORWICH– Norwich track and field hosted the REK track meet on Friday night where Sidney high school won for the girls team and Norwich earned the victory for the boys team.
Norwich girls racked up 118 points to achieve second place, only six points behind Sidney (124).
For the Purple Tornado, Shaylee Horton earned fourth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:08.55 while Annie Boland finished second in the 1500 meter run (6:04.96).
Alex Roque finished in third place in the 1500 meter run (6:10.82) as well as achieving second in the 3000 meter run with a time of 14:16.51.
As a team, Norwich earned second place in the 4x800 meter relay with no names mentioned in the official results.
In pole vault, Robyn Diehl picked up 10 points for first place (7-0) while Shakira Alexander earned first in the shot put event (36-9.25).
Lara Tefft achieved fourth place in the shot put event (27-11) while Emily Evans earned fifth (27-8).
Lexi Slate led Norwich in the discus throw (109-08) and finished second in shot put (31-08.50) while Evans took fourth place in discus (99-00).
For other Chenango County athletes, Jaiden Schrag led Unadilla Valley’s girls track and field team in the 100 meter hurdles (17.55 seconds) and in the 400 meter hurdles (1:12.27).
Schrag also earned the victory in the long jump (15-09.25).
Schrag’s teammate Grace Gorrell earned first place in both the 200 meter dash (27.30 seconds) and in the 400 meter dash (1:01.84).
For the Oxford Blackhawks, Milla Gonzalez achieved first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.08 seconds and a third place finish in the 200 meter dash (27.72).
Madison Camengo led Sherburne-Earlville in the 100 meter hurdles with a fifth place finish (19.08 seconds) and earned fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:18.48).
Lily Stoddard earned a second place finish for S-E in the discus event (108-0).
The Norwich boys track and field team ran away with the victory with 198 points, ahead of Morrisville-Eaton’s 70 points.
Norwich’s Holden Ryan earned the first place finish in the 100 meter dash (11.61 seconds) while teammate Richard Fuller achieved second place in the 400 meter dash (53.10).
Three Norwich boys earned a top-five finish in the 800 meter run. Nolan Reid finished first with a time of 2:11.06 as Zander Sutton earned second (2:13.98) and Caden Sutton with third place (2:15.17).
In the 1600 meter run, Norwich’s Makaio Sutton achieved victory with a time of 5:00.77. Sutton also won the 3200 meter run (11:03.24).
Behind Makaio’s finish in the 1600 meter run, Reid took second (5:03.62) and C. Sutton in third place (5:06.35).
In the 110 meter hurdles, Gage Titsworth placed fifth with a time of 19.86 seconds. Titsworth also placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.31).
Gabe Decker also competed in the 400 meter hurdles with a second place finish (1:04.61).
Norwich earned the victory in the 4x100 team meter relay, the 4x400 relay and the 4x800 relay. The team mentioned in the 4x400 relay consisted of Fuller, Reid, M. Sutton, and Z. Sutton who achieved a time of 3:41.79.
In the high jump event, Norwich’s Lucas Craddock came in first place (5-8). Craddock also placed second in both the long jump (19-6) and in the triple jump (39-11.50).
Anthony Ragonese earned both victories for Norwich in the long jump (20-.25) and triple jump (40-10) ahead of Craddock.
In the discus event, Alek Smietana finished second (110-07) while placing sixth in shot put (36-1.25).
For other Chenango County male athletes, Oxford’s Victor Richette earned two second place victories in the 100 meter dash (11.97 seconds) and in the 200 meter dash (24.11 seconds). Oxford also finished third as a team in the 4x100 meter relay (47.13).
Ben Gorrell led Unadilla Valley in both the 110 meter hurdles (17.60) and in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.11).
Gorrell’s teammate Kristian Stachura earned third place in the 400 meter dash (56.24) and fourth place in the 800 meter run (2:17.33) while Blake Wright finished third in the shot put event (37-3.25).
For Sherburne-Earlville, Aidan Camenga achieved second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.81 seconds and third place in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.25).
In the 3200 meter run, Joshua Larchar finished in third place with a time of 11:35.36 for the Marauders.
Norwich track and field is participating in more meets throughout the week, including a meet in Johnson City on Wednesday before heading to Oneonta on Friday.
