GREENE– After defeating Unatego in game one of the MAC playoffs, The Greene Trojans were ready for round two, which happened to be the championship game.
It wasn’t easy, but Greene defeated Deposit-Hancock 2-1 to become the 2022 MAC Champions. Their first MAC championship in over a decade.
The game was tied at one a piece, heading to the bottom of the sixth. Kennedy led off with a walk. Her courtesy runner, Adreana Romano, moved to second on a bunt-single from McKenzie Scott and then to third base on a wild pitch.
Payton Yahner’s squeeze bunt fielder’s choice brought in Romano to give the Trojans the 2-1 advantage. Olivia Kennedy sealed the deal as she retired the Eagles in order to secure the Trojans’ 18th victory, but by far its toughest win of the campaign.
Kennedy allowed just one hit, no walks, and struck out 10 strikeouts in the victory.
“Olivia pitched a great game and she had a lot of help from her defense, in particular her catcher, McKenzie Scott, who called a great game, and Yahner, who did everything today,” coach Judi Mansheffer said. “This game had a high-level postseason feel to it.”
Greene will advance to the sectional playoffs and is awaiting its seeding and opponent in class C.
